It’s Lent, and the blogosphere is filled with conversations about giving stuff up for this 40-day* period between Ash Wednesday and Easter, and so I’ve been thinking a lot about the spiritual discipline behind this practice of self-sacrifice. Though I don’t consider myself a Christian, I do kind of groove on this Lenten practice, not for the sake of denying myself something so I can become more pious, nor as an opportunity to engage in self-flagellation. Rather, it’s about finding and removing the garbage that gets in the way of my ability to be in right relationship with myself, with others, and with God…
